Why Did My File Fail to Upload? Troubleshooting Invalid Filenames
If a file fails to upload into CMap PIM, or uploads as a placeholder the cause is often something in the filename itself rather than the file content.
Common causes
- Software Time Out - keeping CMap PIM open for a prolonged period of time can cause the system to time out.
- Punctuation and special characters — characters such as apostrophes ('), colons, or quotation marks in a filename can break the naming scheme parsing or corrupt the folder structure CMap creates for the file.
- Missing or malformed number components — if your naming scheme expects a GenNumber, revision code, or zone/discipline code in a fixed position and a digit is missing or misplaced, the file can fail validation.
- Filename doesn't match the expected naming scheme pattern at all.
How to fix it
- Try closing the software down and re-opening it.
- Rename the file to remove punctuation and special characters (stick to letters, numbers, hyphens and underscores).
- Check the filename against your project's naming scheme and confirm every required segment (discipline, number, revision, etc.) is present and correctly formatted.
Re-upload the corrected file.
