Managing Naming Schemes

Managing Naming Schemes

Naming schemes are an essential component of CMap PIM and document management in general, as they will dictate the structure and format your file names will follow.  One of the key benefits of using naming schemes is that they make your files more organsied and easier to manage and locate.

On top of your core naming scheme, CMap PIM can support a number of different naming conventions on both a Hubsite and project level.

At some point during your time using CMap PIM, you may need to switch naming scheme due to the requirements of a specific project or due to organisational changes.

Any naming scheme changes must be made by a Site Owner

How to update a project's naming scheme

  1. Go to the 'Manager' tab.
  2. Find and select the project you want to update using the grey circle.
  3. When the 'Manage Project' panel opens, click on the hyperlinked 'Manage Naming Schemes' located at the bottom of the panel.
  4. Here you will see the 'Naming Scheme Preferences' page, along with all the naming schemes available to use.
  5. Make sure the naming scheme you want to use has been selected and ticked in the 'Default' column - the same or a different scheme can be selected for 'Internal' and 'Imported' (these can be used for validation and metadata extraction purposes).
  6. Once you've made all the necessary changes, click on 'Update' to save.
